Ms. Alex

Ms. Alex is a Bay Area native who started dancing at three and by five was taking specialized classes in Tap.  She has trained and taught in the areas of tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip-hop and competed as a youth in all those genres.  She has 17 years of experience in Competitive Dance and Cheer that includes west coast regional competitions and collegiate championships of Universal Dance Association and United Spirit Association. 

Alex attended California Lutheran University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a member of the Dance Team.  In 2012-2014, Alex was the Treasurer of the team and the Captain in 13-14.   She choreographed many routines for halftime performances in addition to choreographing her university's theatrical productions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dido and Aeneas, and finally, her colleges’ inaugural student dance showcase called, Moving Images.  She also choreographed several halftime routines for collegiate basketball games.

Also in college, Ms. Alex competed in the national collegiate dance competitions of UDA and USA in both open and hip hop categories. During her time at Cal Lutheran, she provided leadership in moving the team into a new era---introducing Varsity uniforms and custom costuming. 

As a teacher, Ms. Alex has been teaching dance for almost eight years in the genres of tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet and hip-hop.  In 2016, she started teaching Competition Dance and has choreographed many large & small groups, and, solos, duets, and trios.  Many of her Competition Pieces have won the #1 Choreographer Award on several occasions.  Alex continues teaching different genres focusing on technique and helping students break down moves, step by step.  She makes an effort to teach students on an individual basis, giving dancers specific corrections, advice, and specialized attention as much feasible.

Ms. Alex is second year staff member at Dance Academy USA, and will be joining the Competition Team Staff for the 2022-2023 season.
